Qoute of the Day-

"Remember, things come to those who wait--but only things that are left behind by those who hustle."
-Barry Farber in Entrepreneur Magazine

Quote of the Day

"Going down is better that coming up."

This a a quote I heard going down the steps into the subway station in New York, as I was stuck behind two women "slow strolling" and complaining about climbing steps and life in general.

And the thing is they are right!! Coming up is hard work. You need focus and discipline. You have to take every painstaking step until you get were you are trying to go.Going down on the contrary feels great!! That is until you hit the bottom and realize that you gotta come up again. Going down is so good they event got slick slogans for it... "Ball til you Fall" "Ride it til the wheels fall off." and my favorite from a old school radio promotion for a club in South Florida "Party til' ya broke."

Over here its all about coming up.

"I'm not the shrewdest in business. I'm more of a dreamer. A 'What if' person who feels failure is an underrated experience."-Kevin Costner, in yesterday's Ny Post

Quote of the Day:

I reead a quote I had written down in my notebook and it speaks about our
deepest fear - the fear of our power beyond measure. Thought I'd share..
-Bobby Jones, VP Alloy Access

Our Deepest Fear

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be this brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous?

Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There's nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We are born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. Its not just in some of us; its in everyone.

As we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we're liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

- Marianne Williamson

Quote of the Day

What we really want to do is what we are really meant to do. When we do what we are meant to do, money comes to us, doors open for us, we feel useful, and the work we do feels like play to us.”

Quote of the Day

"Keep running, don't look back, and don't stop"
-Overheard from a father teaching his son how to race.
Brooklyn, New York

In the grind we sometimes look around to see what others are doing.Whether it's our friends or our competition, its always nice to gauge your work vs. someone else's. But, just like in a race you have to keep your own stride and run like hell until you cross that finish line.

Stay Grinding!

Quote of the Day:Inspired by Brand Naomi

Wherever you go, go with all your heart. ~Confucius

When Naomi Campbell was sentenced to community service clean up detail, the media was right there to capture every embarrassing detail. However, what started out as a media assassination, ended up repositioning campaign for Brand Naomi. .

As I watched the tide has turn in her favor I realized that
Naomi has proven that no matter what situation you are put in you have to handle your business all the way. For, when you know who you are, and stay on top of your own thing, its not much anyone can say or do that can destroy you.
"I want to walk out of here with my head up. I want to go out in style, and fashion is what I’ve done for 21 years. It’s something that I love."
"What do they expect me to do—walk in looking all drib and drab? I’ve never looked drib and drab in my life."
Read more about Naomi's Clean Up Detail W Magazine its pretty interesting from a behind the scenes aspect.

Thoughts: The Past

"Do not let your past make a mockery of your future."
-Muhammad, Chief Visionary, 21st Century Hustle

We all have outside forces commentating on all we do, but our most dangerous enemy is ourselves. For, the self knows our every fault, and weakness. It knows every time we've made a mistake, did something dumb, or became successful at something. Its that other voice in your head that's monitoring all we do vs. all we've done. It's the one saying "you can't...because you've never" and "remember the last time we tried that" or even worse "you can't... because you are beyond that."

These are limiters that determine how high you can go by the things you've have or haven't done. Kill'em shake'em off, whatever you have to do to get that up off you. When it comes up, acknowledge it, deal with it, learn from it, but ultimately figure out how to build on it and use that past to make it to the ultimate future. Make your failures, mistakes, successes, exs, family, neighborhood, schools, etc. all work for you. Its all money in the bank, now cash in on the interest.

Quote of the Day: Gabriel A. Tolliver

"Who Dares Wins."

" Improvise.Adapt.Overcome."

-Gabriel A. Tolliver, writer.director.producer.author (Submitted via gmail)

We usually only do one quote at a time, but Gabe's double feature seemed more powerful together than apart. So we'll break them down as package...

Jump out there and do something. Take the chances. Its like everybody wants to win but not too many people want to do what it takes to get there. Don't be scared... Be bold in your approach. Dare yourself to accomplish your dreams and conquer your fears. Those that do will inevitably reap the Rewards of doing so. However In taking chances and going for it all there are always Risk, Obstacles, Trials & Tribulations Therefore, it is mandatory that you be able to switch gears, learn, unlearn and relearn. In doing so you will be prepared to conquer all of the challenges you'll face after you Dare yourself to jump out in there in pursuit of whatever it is you desire.

Thank Gabe for the quotes.

Quote of the Day:Nairobi Morgan

"Sometimes you have to starve in order to eat."
-Nairobi Morgan-Editor-In-Chief,
www.Strictlyfitteds.com
(as told to Me 4/25/07)

The way he explained the quote was:
It was him and two other guys doing Production Assistant work on videos and one day they became collectively fed up with the low pay ($100 a day) and grunt work. "We couldn't do it anymore."

So they made a hustler's agreement to see which one of the three could get to a thousand dollars a day...The plan was simple, "If anybody gets a call about PA work, turn it down. Tell them we don't do this work anymore we do something else and here's our price." The risk was that they were not going to make any money until their new projects picked up, however Nai says, " It worked,I was second to get to $1,000 per day."

You get what you ask for, but you might go hungry in the meantime...But you do get it. And when you got it, its all good.

Quote of the Day:

"Don’t allow your life to become just a dead ritual. Let there be moments, unexplainable. Let there be a few things which are mysterious, for which you cannot supply any reason. Let there be a few doings for which people will think you are a little crazy. A man who is a hundred percent sane is dead." - Osho

Quote of the Day

"In my mind, you have the Have's and the Have Not Made it Yet's"
-Todd Tillman

When I first started my career in entertainment someone told me that the only ones that dont make it in this business are the ones who quit before they catch their break. But the only thing that can keep you in it is your passion for it.. without that quitting is inevitable. So find your passion and put your game down and never give up until you get yours...

Quote of the Day

'Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment.'
-Buddha

We often talk about getting it right, especially when it's not going exactly how we think it should be. It always " I'm about to get it right." Personally I'm about to change that...Noooo scratch that...I Changed that. I'm not about to get it "right", naww I'm getting it "Right Now!" Kill the procrastinating and prognosticating.

“Oh What a job this is… “

Quote of the Day

“It’s not about a salary it’s all about reality.”
-KRS One –“My Philosophy”

My homeboy Todd who I grew up with in Miami suggested that quote….

Little did he know it is one of my personal themes(Hence the name True Pockets: Be real about what you do & get paid for it too!).

We get criticism from people who think that 21st Century Hustle is only about entrepreneurs. Not the case. When I say it’s not about a salary… I mean Don’t let that money make you…We can get so caught up with the dollar amount that we loose sight of original purpose and become a slave to the dollar. So bottom line in my philosophy is…..No matter how you earn your living, earn a “living” not a “dollar.”
