METRO NY-The city gave the green light yesterday to the 42-story Trump SoHo “hotel condominium” project, despite charges from several elected officials and community activists that the building flouts zoning laws. The Department of Buildings approved the permit for the glass tower at Spring and Varick streets — an area of low-rise loft buildings and 15-story warehouses. The area is zoned for manufacturing and prohibits residential or residential-hotel use. “Transient” hotels, however, are allowed, and Trump asserts this project complies.
