"Entrepreneurial" Blues

"At the request of JetBlue Airways Corp., founder David Neeleman has stepped down[read:FORCED] from his position as CEO."

It's always bad to see someone start a company, put all of their blood sweat and tears into it, make it a great company, then get stripped of it by investors. Terrible! David Needleman created Jet Blue, the most innovative Airline of this century. It was the first ever to have all leather seats with Direct TV in them. The first to really get behind online booking. the easiest to get to free flights, new planes every month, free wi-fi in their constantly updated terminals, freshest uniforms, great prices, and hell on the competition. Throughout its 7 year history they only had losses in three quarters. Despite the achievments the winter storm debauchery of february was enough to get Neddleman bounced up to a non-executive role....

"David's talents are entrepreneurial, and therefore perfect for the Chairman position, which will free his time and energy from day-to-day operations to identify creative opportunities and focus on the broader scope and direction of the company," said Alison Eshelman, manager of corporate communications at JetBlue Airways, New York. "This move is a natural evolution as the company grows from a start-up to a major player."

It seems that "entrepreneurial" is only good enough to make a company great... Not good enough to run it?

Fast Company Magazine posed the question three years ago..
Can JetBlue make the leap from popular (and profitable) niche airline to major player -- without losing its soul? Only if it can grow big but stay small at heart
